It's interesting - legally I think the guy obviously should go free. But I can't help thinking, "What if he rapes someone again?" After all, the point of the criminal justice system is to protect the public. And emotionally and even logically, it makes far more sense that if you have a violent sexual predator, you should keep them away from potential victims. You kinda just need to trust that the legal prohibitions against double-jeopardy, unlawful search & seizure, detention without trial, etc. are there for a reason and life would be far worse without them, because in almost every specific example (given the information available to the public at large), they seem to let guilty people go free.
